According to The Athletic, Brentford are ready to bid £25.7m to sign Arsenal and Everton target Mykhaylo Mudryk.
What’s the story?
Well, there has been strong interest in the Ukraine international as we approach the 11pm deadline on Thursday, with Everton seeing a bid rejected for the 21-year-old.
Arsenal are yet to make an offer of their own, although they are in talks with Shakhtar Donetsk over a deal.
However, Brentford are now ready to gatecrash the party.
The Athletic believe it will be a difficult deal for the Bees to complete, mainly due to the fact that Shakhtar Donetsk have seen almost all of their foreign players depart due to the Russian invasion.
If Brentford do manage to sign Mudryk, he would become their new club-record signing, surpassing the £16m addition of Keane Lewis-Potter made earlier this summer.
Interestingly, The Athletic add that Arsenal remain interested in the winger, but are currently focused on reinforcing the centre-midfield department after injuries to Mohamed Elneny and Thomas Partey.
In 19 appearances last season, Mudryk scored two goals and also provided nine assists.
Brentford could stun Arsenal & Everton
In our view, the Bees certainly cannot be accused of having little ambition this summer.
Thomas Frank has already welcomed the exciting Mikkel Damsgaard to west London this summer, a talent who scored against England for Denmark in the EURO 2020 semi-final.
The Dane has previously attracted interest from Arsenal, Tottenham and Liverpool, while also being described as the heir to Christian Eriksen in Danish football.
Deals for Aaron Hickey and Lewis-Potter have also caught the eye, so if the Bees now go and beat Frank Lampard and Mikel Arteta to Mudryk, they deserve huge praise for their ambition.
Having said that, the Ukrainian wonderkid actually admitted to turning Brentford down earlier this year, so it remains to be seen if they are successful with their approach this time.
