Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United could now make their own move to sign Romeo Lavia and beat Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal to the signing of the Southampton defensive midfielder.

90min have reported that Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea all have held discussions over a possible move for Romeo Lavia, and now Newcastle United “could very well open talks too” for the Southampton midfielder.

Manchester City are monitoring the situation as well, and there is also interest in Lavia from Manchester United, according to the report.

Southampton, who will play in the Championship next season after getting relegated from the Premier League, are willing to sell Lavia, but the Saints want as much as £50 million for him.

Could Newcastle United sign Romeo Lavia?

In our opinion, Newcastle United would have to outbid the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool if they were to sign Romeo Lavia from Southampton in the summer transfer window.

Now, Southampton may not get the £50 million that they want for Lavia.

The Saints could have to settle for £40 million or perhaps even less.

However, with Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United all interested in the 19-year-old, Newcastle are facing stiff competition for the Belgium international defensive midfielder, described as a “very special player” by Red Devils winger Jadon Sancho in August 2022.
