According to the Daily Mail, Celtic will find out next week whether Lee Congerton has snubbed interest from China in order to become the Bhoys’ new head of recruitment.

The Bhoys have enjoyed some great success in the transfer market in recent years, as the likes of Fraser Forster, Virgil van Dijk, Victor Wanyama, Ki Sung-yueng and Gary Hooper were all signed before being sold to Premier League clubs.

More recently, Jozo Simunovic, Erik Sviatchenko and Moussa Dembele have arrived and thrived, but the man who helped bring them to Glasgow – former scouts and Head of Deevlopment John Park – left the club in October.

Having been with the club for ten years, Park’s departure leaves Celtic with a big hole to fill – and they could be close to landing Park’s replacement.

The Daily Mail report that Celtic have identified Lee Congerton as the man for the job, but face competition from an unnamed club in China, who have made Congerton a ‘lucrative offer’.

Congerton, 43, is well known to Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers given that the pair worked together at Chelsea, and the two have allegedly kept in touch in recent years.

Congerton had a spell with Bundesliga side Hamburg, taking the Technical Director job in 2011, and he moved on to Sunderland in March 2014, but left his post as Sporting Director in December 2015.

The Welshman must now decide whether to take the job with Celtic or head out to China, with the Bhoys expecting a decision next week as Rodgers chases a reunion with one of his closest allies in football.
