After 51 days without a manager, Tottenham Hotspur are now said to be about to go back to square one in their hunt.
The Telegraph report that Tottenham have thrown out all their plans and are now allowing new sporting director Fabio Paratici to have a big influence on their decision over who becomes their next manager, when he officially takes charge.
The Telegraph don’t offer too many names as candidate, although they do say that Erik ten Hag may be looked at again by Tottenham.
Ten Hag was initially a target for Spurs, but after he penned a new contract with Ajax, it seemed that Tottenham’s attentions turned elsewhere.
However, after failing to land either Mauricio Pochettino or Antonio Conte, it seems that Ten Hag could be back on Tottenham’s wishlist.
Paratici actually doesn’t have any direct links with the Dutch manager, but he is highly regarded for the work that he has done at Ajax.
More frustration
The news that Tottenham are back at square one so long into their managerial search is sure to cause frustration, though.
Spurs have been managerless for almost two months now and while it was widely accepted that patience would be required, the duration of their hunt is beginning to become ridiculous.
Tottenham are now in danger of harming their plans for next season, as other Premier League sides are already making signings in preparation for next campaign at this point.
But it seems that no appointment is imminent, unless talks progress very quickly in the coming days.
