Sunderland could be about to have a very busy summer transfer window.
Former Sunderland boss Dick Advocaat has recommended that the Black Cats make six signings this summer, according to a report in the Daily Mail.
The Sunderland hierarchy were keen to seek Advocaat’s advice before he departed – having seen him guide the club to Premier League safety – and the Dutchman felt that a full-scale renovation of the squad was required.
The 67-year-old reportedly identified a number of areas of the squad which needed to be upgraded and has recommended that they are busy in the transfer window.
Sunderland are thought to have listened to Advocaat’s advice and are now offering their new manager, whoever that may be, a big budget with which to make the necessary alterations to his squad.
The Black Cats had originally hoped that Advocaat would take charge himself, but he decided to turn down their job offer.
Advocaat felt that he had reached an age where he didn’t want to embark on a long-term project, meaning Sunderland are currently without a manager.
They will be hoping that whoever takes charge does heed Advocaat’s parting words, though, and it seems that there could be a number of new arrivals at the Stadium of Light if they do.
