The Sporting Lisbon midfielder continues to be linked with Tottenham Hotspur.
According to a report from Portuguese newspaper A Bola, Sporting Lisbon midfielder Adrien Silva is holding out for a move to Tottenham Hotspur and has no intention of signing for a club unless they are fighting for titles next season.
The same report suggests that while talks with West Bromwich Albion were advancing, the player only has eyes for Spurs.
However the problem could be his sizable price tag, with his current team wanting at least £26.8million to get a deal over the line.
Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is never going to sanction such an expensive deal for a 28-year-old; especially one that at first glance Mauricio Pochettino does not desperately need.
Bringing in an experienced central midfielder to help Tottenham mount a joint assault on the Premier League and the Champions League is a sensible move. But what Spurs need most is a new striker, an additional winger and another right-back to compete with Kieran Trippier for a starting spot next season.
Silva could well remain at Sporting this year, with a contract that runs until the summer of 2020 meaning they are unlikely to sell him on the cheap.
So it could come down to just how much Tottenham want him – if at all. Either they bid big for a player who seemingly favours them or they turn their attention elsewhere and Silva probably stays where he is.
