Sunderland boss Jack Ross has always spoken positively about Adam Matthews since taking over at the Stadium of Light.

According to the Chronicle, Adam Matthews is ‘more than likely’ to leave Sunderland in the summer.
Matthews has been a rotational player for Sunderland so far this season, making 21 appearances in League One.
But he is still on a hefty wage, and with Sunderland likely to want to offload some of their top earners in the summer, he is reportedly set to depart.
Jack Ross has always spoken highly of Matthews, but Sunderland are still looking to reduce their wage bill, and it is suggested that the full-back is now a leading contender to depart the Stadium of Light.
Matthews is most comfortable playing at right-back, where Sunderland already have other options.
Luke O’Nien was signed as a central midfielder, but he has caught the eye on the right hand side of defence this season.

The amount of departures which take place at Sunderland this summer is likely to depend on what league that they are playing in.
If Sunderland can earn promotion then they may be able to hold on to some of their key players, even though Matthews looks set to depart regardless.
The Black Cats are currently in third place in the League One table, but they do have a game in hand over their nearest rivals.
