According to the Chronicle, Newcastle United boss Rafael Benitez could give Adam Armstrong a chance to train with the first-team over pre-season.

Armstrong has been sent out on a series of loan spells in recent times, with Benitez seemingly overlooking the youngster.

But Armstrong could have his golden chance to impress at Newcastle over pre-season.

With Aleksandar Mitrovic due to depart in the near future, Newcastle are short of strikers, and that could see Armstrong moved into the senior squad’s training.

Armstrong may be joined there by both Dan Barsalar and Jamie Sterry, as Benitez assesses the quality of Newcastle’s youngsters.

Newcastle are expected to bring in several signings this summer, with Benitez wanting to strengthen his squad.

But Armstrong will be looking to prove a point over pre-season, after some impressive spells away from St. James’ Park at League One level.
