According to a report in the Chronicle, Newcastle United are planning to give both Freddie Woodman and Adam Armstrong a chance over pre-season.

Newcastle are intending to make a number of improvements to their first-team this summer, following promotion to the Premier League.

However, Rafael Benitez is keen to create a pathway for his youngsters to break into the senior squad and intends to give both Woodman and Armstrong a chance to impress in pre-season.

Woodman and Armstrong are regarded as two of the best talents in Newcastle’s youth system, and their stock has increased over the summer.

The pair were both involved in England’s under-20 World Cup win, with Woodman, in particular, impressing.

Although Armstrong and Woodman are unlikely to be regular starters at Newcastle next term – the pair could both be kept around.

If either of the pair fail to convince Benitez that they are likely to be loaned out, with a host of Football League sides likely to be interested in signing the duo.
