The Lancashire Telegraph have claimed that Accrington Stanley want to extend Newcastle United midfielder Dan Barlaser’s loan beyond January, after impressing during the first half of the season.

The 21-year-old has turned out 18 times for John Coleman’s side, scoring two goals and creating another as Accrington continue to stay above the League One relegation scrap in 14th place.

Barlaser has endured a difficult time of it recently and a loan spell at Crewe Alexandra last season did not go to plan, with Barlaser managing just four appearances.

But this time around, the midfielder has impressed and is becoming an important asset to Accrington’s side. The report claims that Accrington want to extend his loan, before quoting manager Coleman on his loan star.

“Dan Barlaser is a good footballer and will get better with the more exposure he gets to playing football,” Coleman said. “He still needs a touch of responsibility to his game and be aware of the defensive side but he is a very good player.”

A Turkey Under-17 international, the Gateshead-born midfielder has made three senior appearances for Newcastle, turning out in the 2016-17 FA Cup games against Oxford United and Birminhgam City, as well as last season’s Carabao Cup loss to Nottingham Forest.

He is likely to be allowed to leave on loan once again, with the Toon boasting plenty of options in the senior side including Jonjo Shelvey, Mo Diame, Isaac Hayden and Ki Sung-yueng. He has a contract with Newcastle until June 2020.
