AC Milan have reached an agreement over the signing of Sassuolo striker Gianluca Scamacca, according to Il Milanista – but that does not mean Southampton should be throwing in the towel just yet.
A 6ft 5ins Italian centre-forward, Saints fans everywhere would have been hoping that the new Graziano Pelle would be heading to St Mary’s when they were first linked with a move for Scamacca via Milanista recently.
Southampton, the report claimed, were in talks over a deal that would see the Ascoli loanee head to Britain during the summer transfer window.
“Scamacca? Gianluca is an excellent professional and soon he will be the centre-forward of the Italian national team,” Ascoli president Massimo Pulcinelli told Pianeta B of a man who has 11 goals in 25 games this season.
As it stands, however, Southampton look set to miss out on a man who shares a playing style and a nationality with Pelle – a man who conjures up romantic memories of that glorious Ronald Koeman era.

According to new claims from Italy, AC Milan have now reached an agreement which will see Scamacca replace the legendary Zlatan Ibrahimović at the San Siro. Interestingly enough, the Rome-born 21-year-old has been labelled the ‘new Ibra’ in the past.
Though this does not mean all hope for the Saints has been lost. As Il Milanista points out, prospective new Rossoneri coach Ralf Rangnick plans to introduce a ‘false nine’ system at Milan next season.
Scamacca, an old-school, 6ft something centre-forward, does not exactly fit the bill.
