West Ham United and Celtic have been linked with the Burnley-bound striker.

According to a report on The Daily Mail, Burnley are set to tie up a £9 million deal for Lorient striker Abdul Majeed Waris.

It was reported by The Mail early in August that Celtic and West Ham United were interested in the 25-year-old marksman, who netted 10 Ligue 1 goals last season.

However, The Daily Mail reported this morning that both clubs are going to miss out on the Ghana forward as Burnley close in on the deal.

If it materialises, Waris will be the second big-money striker to join the Clarets in a week after Chris Wood sealed a £15 million move from Leeds a few days ago.

Celtic and West Ham could do with an additional striker.

The Bhoys only have Leigh Griffiths and linked-away Moussa Dembele as options, while beyond Javier Hernandez there is a lack of quality up front at West Ham, too.

Nevertheless, £9 million is a big price tag – huge for Celtic – for a striker with a one-goal-in-three-game ratio in France.

Meanwhile, The Mirror’s Tranfer Zone (entry posted 10:33 on August 23) has reported that Burnley boss Sean Dyche also wants to sign Leicester City’s Ahmed Musa.

The 24-year-old, a £16.6 million signing last summer, hasn’t proven a great buy and hasn’t featured much since Craig Shakespeare took the reins in February.

But if Waris joins then Dyche is unlikely to spend more money on another striker, having already signed Wood.
