Manchester United have received enquiries from ‘a number of Premier League and Championship clubs’ for Axel Tuanzebe, although the defender is set to spend another season at Aston Villa, according to the Sun.

Tuanzebe moved to Villa Park on a half-season loan deal in January, and has made five appearances for Steve Bruce’s side in a spell which has been blighted by injuries.

Jose Mourinho the head coach

But the report claims that Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho wants the 20-year-old to spend another season learning under Bruce – and adds that Tuanzebe ‘is set to head there’ whether or not Aston Villa are promoted to the top flight.

According to a United source, however, the defender’s return may not happen right away.

“Axel could stay at Aston Villa. It’s not dependent on promotion at all,” they said, as quoted by the Sun.

“The club are still undecided but that’s what they’d like him to do. We know Villa are keen on him.

“He is expected to go on the US pre-season tour before Jose makes his final decision over him.”

Tuanzebe’s Manchester United teammate Sam Johnstone also returned to Aston Villa after an initial half-season loan spell, and a permanent deal could be on the cards if the Villans go up – although he too is said to have attracted interest from other clubs.

Should Aston Villa bring back Tuanzebe next season?
