Crystal Palace target Jordan Amavi could be set for a return to the Premier League after turning down a contract at Marseille, as reported by the Telegraph.

L’OM coach Andre Villas-Boas must feel as if he is trying to build his house on sand at the moment.

With Marseille once again facing major problems on and off the pitch, a Ligue 1 title fight has dissipated while Financial Fair Play pressures threaten to rip Villas-Boas’s squad apart.

The French giants are expected to lose Morgan Sanson to Aston Villa – even if they did reject a ‘pathetic’ initial offer from Dean Smith’s side – while out-of-contract players like Amavi and the talismanic Florian Thauvin have been told they are free to leave this month.

Crystal Palace are keen on the former Aston Villa youngster Amavi, according to the Mail, with the £9 million flyer lined up as a potential replacement for Patrick Van Aanholt at Selhurst Park.

And Marseille may have no choice but to cash in on a player Villas-Boas was desperate to keep, with the Telegraph reporting that Amavi has rejected the chance to sign fresh terms.

The former Nice starlet told France Football recently that he would be happy to stay at the Stade Velodrome but, after the double whammy of COVID and the collapse of a billion dollar TV deal, Marseille cannot afford to hand Amavi a raise on his current £30,000-a-week deal (L’Equipe).
