Everton’s interest in Lyon winger Rachid Ghezzal appears to be fruitless.

Le Progres recently reported that Everton had come to an agreement with Lyon to sign the player. The report claimed Everton agreed a deal of €11 million (£9.5 million) for the player, with a 20 per cent resale figure if he departs Goodison Park.

But Ghezzal, who is also on the radar of Southampton and West Ham, has reportedly rejected Everton’s interest.

It was reported by French newspaper L’Equipe that Everton had made a move to sign the Lyon star, but the player has rejected a possible switch to Goodison Park as he wants to play European football this season.

However, Ghezzal has not committed his future to Lyon.

The Algerian international has, according to Le Progres, informed Lyon he will not be signing a new contract.

Ghezzal’s deal with Lyon expires next summer and it appears he is ready to move on should the right deal present itself on his table.

Everton may not be able to get hold of the player this summer, but if they can find their way into Europe under Ronald Koeman then perhaps he could be a cheaper option in 11 months time.
