According to The London Evening Standard, Arsenal central defender David Luiz has a number of options.
Luiz is out of contract at Arsenal at the end of the season, and no new deal is in place yet.
It has been reported that talks over a new deal for the former Chelsea star have yet to take place, and that the Brazilian is relaxed about the situation.
The 34-year-old, who can also operate as a defensive midfielder, has ‘a number of options to consider’ before deciding on his next move, according to the report.
David Luiz’s Arsenal spell
Luiz has been on the sidelines since March 21 due to a knee injury, but, according to The London Evening Standard, the defender is back in training and is hoping to be passed fit to play against Villarreal in the Europa League this week.
The 34-year-old joined Arsenal from London and Premier League rivals Chelsea in the summer of 2019 for a transfer fee reported by Sky Sports to be worth £8 million.
The defender has done well for the Gunners and has been a leader at the back in manger Mikel Arteta’s squad.
According to WhoScored, Luiz has made 16 starts and three substitute appearances in the Premier League for Arsenal so far this season, scoring one goal in the process.
The defender has also scored one goal in seven Europa League games this season, according to WhoScored.
During the 2019-20 campaign, Luiz scored two goals and provided one assist in 33 league games, and played five times in the Europa League for Arsenal, according to WhoScored.
New Arsenal contract for David Luiz?
Luiz is in his mid-30s now, and it will be interesting to see if Arsenal decidd to hand him a new deal.
If the Gunners do hand the Brazilian a new deal, then it has to be a one-year contract.
