Long-term Tottenham Hotspur target Gareth Bale is open to leaving Real Madrid, after Zinedine Zidane’s latest comments about him, the London Evening Standard suggest.

Bale has been consistently linked with a return to Tottenham in recent times, with the latest rumours of a move back to North London coming in April, when Sport said that they could make a move this summer.

Bale’s agent, Jonathan Barnett, claimed that the Welshman had no interest in departing Madrid a few months back, but since the situation has soured even further.

Zidane stated yesterday that the £85 million winger (BBC Sport) was left out of Madrid’s squad for their Champions League match against Manchester City because he didn’t want to play.

The Standard suggest that Zidane’s comments aren’t entirely correct though, as Bale was simply keen not to travel to Manchester, as he knew he wasn’t going to be selected.

There appears to be no coming back for Bale in Madrid now, and the 31-year-old would apparently be open to moving on if he is granted a free transfer.

Spurs almost certainly would be keen to take him back, but doing a deal is hugely complicated.

Bale’s wages at Madrid are so exorbitant that unless the Spanish club are willing to pay a portion of them, or the winger is willing to take a huge salary cut, then any move still seems unlikely.

But if the possibility of a Tottenham move does come about, Bale does at least seem willing to entertain the idea of returning now.
