According to Voetbal24, Toby Alderweireld believes he can shine at Tottenham following the sacking of José Mourinho.

The £80,000-a-week man has told Club Brugge – who were interested in his services – that he isn’t looking to leave north London right now.

Alderweireld feels he is still good enough to be a regular in Tottenham’s starting XI, having started only 20 of the club’s 33 Premier League games this season.

Some might’ve thought Dele Alli would be the man with a new lease of life after Mourinho left, given the way he treated the England international.

The 58-year-old only started Dele twice in the Premier League this term, before Daniel Levy gave him his marching orders.

However, it is Alderweireld who seems rejuvenated by his exit.

After recent events, this isn’t actually that surprising.

According to the Daily Mail, Tottenham’s players were left baffled and angry after Mourinho said he dropped Alderweireld because he only got back to training on Saturday, before a game against Newcastle on Sunday.

However, footage posted by Tottenham’s Twitter account showed the Belgian at Hotspur Way on Thursday – how bizarre.

Perhaps Alderweireld was about to become Mourinho’s new Alli, or his new Paul Pogba.

Thankfully for him, the ex-Chelsea boss left before any more strange happenings occurred.
