It would be a huge shock if Xherdan Shaqiri is still a Liverpool player by the start of next season.
The Switzerland international turned down a chance to quit the Reds toward the end of last summer’s transfer window.
But it was ultimately a poor decision if regular football was his motivation because Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp only gave him five Premier League starts this past season.
Consequently, there’s a bit of speculation about him leaving Anfield and according to one rumour from Italy, a move to Lazio is very much on the cards.
Tuttomercatoweb has this morning reported that the Italian side are big fans of Shaqiri and that a switch to Rome could become ‘concrete’ within a matter of weeks.
Decent signing
Yes, he hasn’t played much football over the past two seasons – starting seven Premier League games, to be specific – but ultimately he has been a good signing by Liverpool.
Shaqiri, who earns £80,000 per week at Anfield, only cost the Reds some £13 million three years ago after Stoke City’s relegation.
Jamie Carragher labelled him a ‘brilliant buy‘ at the time and six goals in his first season – including two against Manchester United – suggested that he was a big bargain.
In this day and age, £13 million really isn’t a lot of money for somebody of Shaqiri’s experience and ability and if he does leave Merseyside over the coming weeks, he’ll be remembered as a decent addition.
