According to AS, Tottenham are now willing to let Harry Winks leave the club on loan this month, contrary to previous reports.
Football London‘s Alasdair Gold revealed back in mid-December that there was ‘currently’ no chance of the 8-cap England international leaving in January.
Gold mentions the fact that Winks is Jose Mourinho’s backup behind Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Moussa Sissoko.
He adds that the £50,000-a-week man is required for depth purposes, with a lot of games scheduled for the second half of the season.
However, AS believe that Tottenham are now willing to let the 24-year-old depart north London this month.
The Spanish news outlet add that Winks isn’t against the move, as he aims to make it into Gareth Southgate’s England squad for EURO 2021.
AS state that Tottenham and Valencia are in talks over a loan deal, but Spurs are demanding a fee from the Spanish side.
That is slowing negotiations down, as Valencia owner Peter Lim maintains a tight grip over the club’s purse strings.
In our view, Winks should leave if he’s aiming to make Southgate’s squad.
Tottenham’s No.8 has only made five Premier League starts this season, and is really struggling to nail down a first-team spot.
You can hardly blame him, as the likes of Hojbjerg, Sissoko, Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso have done well this season.
