Wesley Hoedt would love a return to Lazio this summer, with Southampton willing to sell the out-of-favour centre-half for £7 million, according to Corriere dello Sport.
Although the Saints produced their worst defensive performance since that 9-0 thumping against Leicester City as Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son ran riot at St Mary’s on Sunday, that does not mean Hoedt will be handed a second chance.
The Dutchman has barely kicked a ball since Ralph Hasenhuttl replaced Mark Hughes at the helm in late-2018.
After being farmed out on loan to Celta Vigo and Royal Antwerp, Southampton would surely not waver if they received an offer of £7 million for a man who moved to England for almost double that fee back in 2017.
Hoedt expressed a desire to return to Lazio a few months ago. And, according to Corriere dello Sport, his dream might just become a reality.
Simone Inzaghi remains a big fan of the 26-year-old and, while player and coach had their disagreements in the past, it seems that plenty of water has flowed under the proverbial bridge.

After leading Lazio back into the Champions League after 12 years away, Inzaghi believes a centre-half with Hoedt’s superb passing range and tactical adaptability would be the perfect addition at the Stadio Olimpico.
That bodes well for Wolverhampton Wanderers, as well as Southampton.
Why? Because, according to LazioNews, Nuno Espirito Santo’s side are hoping to finally lure Wallace to Molineux, one year after a £6.5 million deal for another Jorge Mendes client fell through.
Hoedt would replace Wallace in Inzaghi’s squad.
