Aston Villa will allow Lovre Kalinic to leave the club on one condition this summer, according to a report.
Birmingham Live claim that if Villa can find a Tom Heaton replacement then Kalinic can head for the exit doors.
Heaton was Villa’s first-choice before his long-term injury, but he left for Manchester United recently.
That leaves Dean Smith with Emiliano Martinez as his number one, promotion-winning hero, Jed Steer, as a number two and Kalinic as the number three.
And it has been suggested that Smith wants three solid goalkeepers on board ahead of the new Premier League campaign.
That means Kalinic, who joined Villa from Gent in 2019 for £7 million (Telegraph), may have to wait in the Midlands that bit longer.
Some may question why Smith wants three first-choice keepers on-board and how that might be a little excessive.
Well, since Smith took charge of the club, he has seen Orjan Nyland, Steer and Heaton all suffer season-ending injuries.
Such long-term injuries aren’t even common with your average outfield player, never mind a goalkeeper.
So, it’s understandable why Villa are being cautious in that regard because they don’t want to be in a situation where they are once again searching the January market for a keeper because two of their first-choice have just been sidelined.
