Sheffield United are keen to sign Sampdoria defender Omar Colley on an initial loan deal but, according to Examiner Live, Manchester United’s Jesse Lingard will be too expensive.
The January transfer window cannot come soon enough for Chris Wilder.
As you might have heard, The Blades have made the worst start by any team in English top-flight history – and we don’t just mean the Premier League era.
Unfortunately, with Sheffield United limited to loan signings during a period of unprecedented financial uncertainty, it remains to be seen whether Wilder will be able to strengthen his struggling squad adequately as relegation looms.
Sampdoria are desperate to sell Colley, a 6ft 3ins Gambia international with an £11 million release clause in his contract.
Sheffield United are hoping to sign Colley on loan with an eye to a permanent deal next summer, and Sampdoria may be willing to play ball.
The late-blooming, left-footed centre-half could fill a Jack O’Connell-shaped hole in Wilder’s backline and, according to the Star, is excited about a potential move to England.

It seems unlikely that Lingard will follow in Colley’s footsteps, however.
Wilder has held talks with Manchester United but the seldom-seen forward’s £75,000-a-week wages may be a little too rich for bottom-of-the-table Sheffield United (Spotrac).
