Manchester City and Tottenham could now have the chance to sign Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar for as little as €25m (£20m) should the centre-back fail to pen a new contract before the January transfer window.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Italian giants are open to cutting their losses with Skriniar in January if the Slovakian international doesn’t sign a new contract with the club, with the defender’s current deal set to expire in the summer of 2023 after a transfer window where the Serie A star looked set to leave.

Reports suggested that PSG were close a £70m deal for Skriniar, however, a transfer never went through as the 27-year-old remained with Inter, and this January could now see the defender leave for as little as £20m if the centre-back opts to not sign a new deal with the Italian giants.

With City and Tottenham both reportedly interested in signing Skriniar, interest will no doubt be high in January should the defender’s contract situation remain the same, and a bargain could be had given just how good the centre-back is compared to other players in his position.

Skriniar is regarded by many as one of Europe’s best defenders, and many top clubs in Europe would jump at the chance to sign the centre-back if he became available for as little as £20m, with the Slovak also just about to hit the prime of his powers.

Indeed, Inter’s planned asking price for Skriniar will be too good to turn down for the likes of City and Tottenham, and the Premier League duo will be at the front of the queue to sign the 2021 Serie A champion should news soon break that the defender will not renew his stay at the San Siro with Inter.

City and Tottenham might be stacked in the centre-back position, but the opportunity to sign a player as good as Skriniar for just £20m is simply too good to pass up on, and both Premier League clubs will have their work cut out if they’re to land the Serie A superstar.

After all, Skriniar is one of the best defenders in Europe and would make for a fine addition for many top clubs in the UEFA Champions League, and the Premier League could be perfectly suited for the Slovak’s game, with attackers in Italy already feeling the impact of the centre-back’s talents in defence.
