According to Estadio Deportivo, Real Betis stalwart Guido Rodriguez would find it difficult to reject a move to Anfield, amid interest from Liverpool.
What’s the story?
Well, both Liverpool and Arsenal are said to be interested in the Argentina international, according to the Spanish news outlet.
Rodriguez has a release clause worth €80m (£68m) in his contract with Real Betis, although some have said they’d accept half of that sum.
Interestingly, despite his dream of playing for Barcelona or Real Madrid, Estadio Deportivo believe he would find it very tough to reject the Reds.
That should be music to Jürgen Klopp’s ears, if Liverpool truly are interested in signing the 27-year-old.
It will, however, be the complete opposite to Mikel Arteta’s ears.
Arsenal surely have no chance
With all due respect to Arsenal, the Gunners surely have no chance of landing Rodriguez with Liverpool also in for him.
The South American clearly has lofty ambitions, with a move to Barcelona or Real Madrid in mind.
The fact he’d only find it difficult to reject Liverpool, and wouldn’t be absolutely desperate to join, doesn’t bode well for Arsenal.
Arteta’s men cannot offer the defensive midfielder any European football, whereas Liverpool can provide Rodriguez with Champions League football.
In our view, it’s a waste of Arsenal’s time to be chasing targets like this.
What the Gunners must do is find young, hungry talent who would run through a brick wall to play for the club.
Players like Rodriguez, who aren’t exactly young and seemingly want to play at the very highest level immediately, aren’t what Arteta should be focusing on.
