Haris Seferovic has no plans to leave Benfica for a club in a relegation battle amid interest from Premier League strugglers West Bromwich Albion, as reported by A Bola.
Seven years ago, a Baggies side then led by Alan Irvine tried and failed to bring the Swiss international striker to The Hawthorns.
Flash forward to the present day and it seems the same old story is heading for an identical conclusion.
The Express and Star reported last week that West Brom had held initial talks with Benfica about a loan deal for Seferovic.
Their pursuit looked doomed from the start, however.
For one, Benfica were never going to let their star striker depart on a short-term basis, especially with the Lisbon giants desperate to steal the Primeira Liga crown off the heads of bitter rivals Porto.

Now, A Bola has had their say. And it doesn’t bode well for West Brom’s hopes of signing a striker capable of sparking a ‘Great Escape’ reminiscent of Bryan Robson’s Harry Houdini tribute act.
They say that Seferovic showed little interest in leaving title-chasing Benfica, midway through 2020/21, for a club mired in a relegation battle.
West Brom may have to lower their sights, perhaps with a renewed bid for Bournemouth’s Josh King or via Galatasaray hitman Mbaye Diagne.
