Cedric Soares could leave Arsenal before he has even made a first-team appearance with Goal reporting that his contract is set to expire on June 30 as it stands.

Southampton probably couldn’t believe their luck in late-January, when the Gunners came calling for an experienced Portugal international.

Cedric was due to leave the Saints on a free during the summer transfer window and Ralph Hasenhuttl was struggling to drum up offers for a man who had slipped down the pecking order at St Mary’s.

But then Arsenal rode to their rescue, taking Cedric on loan while promising to pay every penny of his sizeable £65,000-a-week wages.

The former Sporting Lisbon and Inter Milan flyer also set the north London giants back a further £1 million, thanks to a rather substantial loan fee.

It was a move which looked questionable at the time, given that Cedric has not been at his best for about two years now.

And, with disastrous January deals for Kim Kallstrom and Denis Suarez still fresh in the mind, history might not look too fondly on Cedric’s short-lived spell at the Emirates either.

The 28-year-old has not even made an appearance in red and white thanks to injury.

And with Goal reporting that his contract is due to expire in a fortnight, Cedric could actually bid farewell to Arsenal without playing a single game for the Premier League giants.

At least Kallstrom and Suarez got on the pitch, albeit briefly.
