According to Sky Sports, Anthony Martial has expressed a desire to leave Manchester United for Sevilla, despite interest from Newcastle.

What’s the story?

Well, it was The Sun who revealed that Newcastle are desperate to sign the £63m forward, who has fallen out of favour at Old Trafford.

The France international has made just two Premier League starts this season, as the arrivals of Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo pushed him down the pecking order.

Now, the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia (PIF) are ready to submit a £6m bid to take the 26-year-old on loan for the second half of the Premier League season.

However, they will now have to convince Martial to forget about Sevilla as well, if Sky Sports are to be trusted.

Martial’s agent, Philippe Lamboley, told Sky Sports earlier in December that his client wished to leave Manchester United in search of regular action.

Sky Sports add that Barcelona and Juventus are also interested in the Manchester United No.9 – clearly, the Magpies have competition.

Newcastle should avoid Anthony Martial

In our view, Newcastle are barking up the wrong tree here.

Eddie Howe needs fighters to arrive in January, players with a gutsy desire who can help drag Newcastle out of the relegation dogfight.

In our view, Martial is not that player.

He is often seen to be quite a sulky presence out on the pitch, and he’s never really come across as a player who’d run through brick walls for their manager.

Additionally, a £6m fee just for six months on loan is ridiculous, while the Magpies would surely have to cover most of his £250,000-a-week wages.

Adding in the fact that Newcastle now need to fend off Sevilla, as well as Barcelona and Juventus, there isn’t much point in wasting time on this deal.

In our view, it’s time to look elsewhere for Amanda Staveley and PIF.
