Arsenal’s hopes of signing Joao Cancelo already appear to be over with the Manchester City defender looking to leave England.

Joao Cancelo has no plans to play in the Premier League despite interest from Arsenal this summer.

That is according to German newspaper Abendzeitung, who have been reflecting on the end of Cancelo’s loan spell at Bayern Munich.

Many were shocked in January when City allowed Cancelo to join Bayern on loan with an option to buy for €70million (£60million).

The move didn’t really work out though as Cancelo failed to really settle in with Bayern.

Now heading back to City with no permanent deal being done, Cancelo is available this summer.

Arsenal are thought to be interested with Fabrizio Romano reporting earlier this week that the Gunners ‘appreciate’ Cancelo.

The Portugal international is thought to be on Arsenal’s list for the summer but Cancelo doesn’t seem interested.

Abendzeitung state that Cancelo doesn’t want to play in England anymore with both City and Arsenal ‘uninteresting’ to him.

Cancelo doesn’t like playing in England or the Premier League and now wants to move back to warmer climates back in southern Europe.

That means returns to Spain or Italy could be on the cards for Cancelo, who has previously played for Valencia, Inter Milan and Juventus.

Arsenal have to forget about Joao Cancelo

It sounds like Cancelo just isn’t going to be swayed on a move to Arsenal, even with former teammates Oleksandr Zinchenko and Gabriel Jesus at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal still appear to want a full back but will have to turn elsewhere with Cancelo out of reach.

Galatasaray star Sacha Boey has been heavily linked of late and he could fit the bill.

Sporx claimed last week that Arsenal had held talks to sign Boey and were around £7million away from a deal.

The Frenchman is a right back by trade but has filled in as a left back previously.

Arsenal may well have wanted Cancelo due to his ability to play on the left or right of defence and Boey could be seen as a much cheaper alternative.
