Tottenham Hotspur’s prospects of beating Chelsea to Anthony Gordon are growing increasingly slim.

The Everton attacker is poised to join the Stamford Bridge outfit in a £60 million transfer, with the player himself keen on the move to West London.

And now there’s another ominous sign for Tottenham that Gordon will not be playing for Antonio Conte.

According to Simon Phillips, the 21-year-old has now agreed personal terms with Chelsea ahead of signing for Thomas Tuchel’s side.

He told Give Me Sport: “Gordon himself has agreed personal terms with Chelsea, and he wants to move obviously; that’s quite common knowledge now.”

On Thursday, another journalist, Paul Brown of The Daily Star, revealed that Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy would love to hijack Gordon’s transfer to the Blues.

But with the Everton sensation seemingly desperate to join Chelsea, and now agreeing personal terms, the window of opportunity for Spurs and Levy is closing rapidly.

With only a week left in the summer transfer window, it makes absolute sense for the Lilywhites to focus on alternative targets.

At this stage, they almost certainly won’t be able to sign Gordon, but Conte’s squad still needs work and therefore it’s imperative that the final days of the window are spent on worthwhile pursuits, not a pie in the sky.

Besides, £60 million is most probably a little to steep for the North Londoners – and everyone else.

Remember, Gordon has only managed four goals and three assists from 52 Premier League outings.

He is an excellent player and one who could – and most likely will – get even better, but the consensus is that Chelsea are overpaying and Tottenham should leave them to it.
