According to Johnny Phillips of Sky Sports, Wolves are eyeing up a move for Real Madrid striker Luka Jovic ahead of the January transfer window.
Phillips revealed the information in a column for the Express and Star, in which he adds that Jorge Mendes is in a great position to complete this deal.
It is said that the Serbia international – who Real Madrid paid €65 million (£60 million) for – could be brought in to provide competition to Raul Jimenez.
Jovic – who was a teammate of Jimenez at Benfica – has struggled since his big-money move to Spain, netting just two goals in 32 games for Los Blancos.
Phillips notes that Mendes is in prime position to negotiate a deal, due to his Benfica connections, and also the fact he recommended the Serbian to Jose Mourinho while he was at Manchester United.
He may be struggling under Zinedine Zidane, although Jovic has proven to be deadly when in form.
The 23-year-old netted 36 goals in 75 games for Eintracht Frankfurt before moving to the Santiago Bernabeu.
His form for the Bundesliga outfit led to his national team coach, Mladen Krstajic, likening him to Uruguay icon Luis Suarez.
In an interview with T-Online, via the Bundesliga‘s official site, Krstajic said: ‘He’s a classic goal-getter with great control of the ball and a good understanding of the game. I’d probably compare him to Luis Suarez.
‘He’s courageous and dangerous at any moment because he’s always lying in wait for his chance or any inattention from the opponent.’
If Wolves and Mendes could pull this deal off, it would be a major transfer coup.
