According to Mundo Deportivo, Vicente Guaita has agreed to join Real Sociedad, in what is a massive blow to Crystal Palace.
The Spanish news outlet claim that the £60,000-a-week glovesman has agreed a contract with the Europa League side until the summer of 2023.
Mundo Deportivo add that the only thing left to decide is whether the 34-year-old moves to La Liga now, or in the summer.
If Guaita left now, the Eagles would be due a fee as he still has some time remaining on his contract at Selhurst Park.
However, Real Sociedad can get him for free if they wait until his deal expires in June.
Crystal Palace’s No.31 rejected two other clubs in favour of the Basque outfit, according to Mundo Deportivo.
This is a huge issue for the south Londoners, to say the very least.
Guaita is arguably the club’s most important player behind Wilfried Zaha, and has been exceptional in recent seasons.
After a stunning display against Tottenham earlier this term, Roy Hodgson described the Spaniard as ‘unbelievably reliable’ – it’s impossible to argue with that statement.
Crystal Palace’s official site quote him as saying: “On the odd occasion when they [the opposition] do get through and there’s a shot to save, he’s proved to be unbelievably reliable. We’re delighted to have him.”
Sadly, it looks as if the ex-England boss will be losing his trusty shot-stopper, if Mundo Deportivo are to be believed.
