According to El Nacional, Newcastle have added Gareth Bale to their transfer shortlist as they consider a move for the Real Madrid forward.
What’s the story?
Well, this would be a special signing for Newcastle.
El Nacional believe Bale was added to the first shortlist drawn up by the Magpies, after the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia (PIF) took over.
The £85.3m man’s contract expires in June 2022, and Real Madrid President Florentino Pérez senses a unique opportunity after Newcastle’s takeover.
Pérez is concerned about losing one of the most expensive players in Real Madrid’s history for nothing, and is hoping for Amanda Staveley to make a move in January.
Bale’s time at the Santiago Bernabeu looks to be over.
The 99-cap Wales international has made just three appearances this season, and has also missed 11 games with a knee injury.
Newcastle should avoid Gareth Bale move

Believe us, we can’t believe we’re writing this, but it must be said.
Bale is among the best players on the planet, winning the Champions League on four occasions while netting 106 goals for Real Madrid.
However, the 32-year-old is declining, while his injuries should also be a huge concern for Newcastle.

The two-time PFA Player of the Year has already proved he can handle himself in England, scoring 53 Premier League goals for Tottenham.
Having said that, there is little evidence right now to suggest he can repeat his heroics – sadly, Bale’s best days look over.
If we were in charge of the Magpies, we’d avoid bringing the £600,000-a-week man to St James’ Park.
