According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Liverpool could let Kostas Tsimikas leave Anfield this summer, as he hasn’t convinced Jürgen Klopp.
What’s the story?
Well, the Italian news outlet claim that Napoli are interested in the 8-cap Greece international.
Tsimikas only arrived at Anfield back in August, moving from Olympiakos in a deal worth £11.75 million.
However, the £60,000-a-week man really struggled to see much action during the course of the 2020/21 campaign.
Liverpool’s No.21 made just three starts last season.
Two came in the Champions League, while the other came in the 7-2 Carabao Cup win over Lincoln City.
Tsimikas was handed two Premier League appearances, totalling just six minutes in the 4-1 defeat to Manchester City and a 3-0 win over Burnley.
Kostas Tsimikas has got it hard
Similar to the way in which Tottenham struggle to find backup for Harry Kane, Tsimikas has got it hard playing second fiddle to Andy Robertson.
The 47-cap Scotland international is arguably the best left-back in Europe, and rarely misses a game for the Reds.
Even amidst Liverpool’s injury crisis in defence last season, Robertson was always available for Klopp.
In that respect, Tsimikas is only going to get game time when Klopp either wants to rest his No.26, or if he gets a suspension.
It’s one of those roles where you either have to accept being an understudy, or request to leave.
Nevertheless, it must be tough for Tsimikas. Very tough indeed.
