According to the Scottish Sun, Dan Petrescu would jump at the chance to replace Neil Lennon at Celtic after mysteriously leaving Kayserispor.

The Chelsea cult hero strangely left the Turkish outfit on Tuesday after just eight weeks in charge.

Now, the Scottish Sun have mentioned him as a potential candidate for the vacant post at Celtic Park, and have also stated that he’d be very keen.

It’s also mentioned that Petrescu came close to taking the Celtic job in 2014, and since then, he has enhanced his CV significantly.

The Romanian oversaw Cluj’s shock Champions League win over the Hoops in 2019, and was named Romania Coach of the Year that same season.

He has also spoken glowingly about the Bhoys previously.

In that respect, perhaps it wouldn’t take Celtic fans long to warm to him if he did replace Lennon.

As quoted by the Daily Record, Petrescu said that Celtic are like Spanish giants Barcelona in the way that they dominate games.

Speaking ahead of the aforementioned Champions League win for Cruj, the 53-year-old said: “When I’ve watched Celtic matches, I’ve got scared because they have on average about 30 chances on goal – it’s like playing against Barcelona.”

Whether he was being genuinely complimentary, or just trying to play some mind games, remains to be seen.

However, praising Celtic, before then beating them with lesser quality players, would surely bode well if Petrescu replaced Lennon, as that’s quite an impressive feat.
