Sporting could hold further talks this week with a player for whom West Ham United, Fulham and Southampton are said to have made offers in the summer transfer window, according to the Portuguese press.
A Bola reported in September that West Ham, Fulham and an unnamed English side had each made unsuccessful bids for the winger, Jovane Cabral.
And Record claimed last month that negotiations were ‘well underway’ between Southampton and Sporting regarding Cabral’s transfer.
No such move materialised, however, with Southampton turning instead to Theo Walcott, while West Ham and Fulham brought in Said Benrahma and Ademola Lookman, respectively.
And representatives of both Cabral and Sporting have since opened discussions about a ‘longer’ contract, with ‘better salary conditions’ and the possibility of an increased termination clause, from €60 million (around £53.5m) to €100m (around £89.3m), according to A Bola.
But the latter publication claims that the two parties ‘are still far away’ in terms of an understanding, with ‘important issues’ – such as the 22-year-old’s salary – still to be overcome.
Despite that, it adds that said issues ‘can be perfectly surpassable’ knowing that the player ‘feels good’ at Sporting.
Raising Cabral’s release fee does not necessarily mean that Sporting would not accept a lower amount should West Ham, Fulham or Southampton revive their interest in future transfer windows.
Cabral has scored or assisted three goals in six league games for the side managed by Ruben Amorim this season.
