According to Il Romanista, Roma are planning a January move for Aston Villa maestro Douglas Luiz, after a transfer development took place.

What’s the story?

Well, the Italian news outlet believe the sale of Steven N’Zonzi has provided some funds for José Mourinho, but not enough to take Luiz away from Villa Park.

However, Roma are also expecting to sell Pau Lopez, Gonzalo Villar and Amadou Diawara, while Cengiz Ünder will join Marseille once his loan ends.

As a result, Mourinho should then have the funds to meet Aston Villa’s asking price for Luiz, which is said to be €30m (£25.9m).

Il Romanista claim that Roma are hoping to sign the Brazilian in January.

Luiz is said to be Mourinho’s No.1 target, and the Portuguese coach sounds very keen to bring him in.

Few clubs offload their star players during the middle of the season, and for that reason, we can’t see the Villans letting Luiz go.

The South American is a key player under Dean Smith, and has made five starts in the Premier League so far this season.

Additionally, Aston Villa paid £15m for him, so their £25.9m asking price sounds quite unrealistic – surely it wouldn’t be that low.

Luiz has improved hugely in the Midlands since leaving Manchester City, and is worth at least £40m to the Villans, if not more in this day and age.

Keep an eye on this saga, as it sounds like Roma are going to make a winter move for the £52,000-a-week playmaker.
