West Ham United are desperate to splash some cash late in the January transfer window – and have now locked sights on a reported Newcastle United target.
It has been reported in recent days that West Ham have tried and failed to sign Leeds United duo Raphinha and Kalvin Phillips in big-money approaches that were rejected.
However, the Hammers remain interested in spending as we approach the final day of the transfer window.
And now Scottish manager David Moyes is reportedly setting his sights on a much-needed striker.
Michail Antonio is the Irons’ best and only central attacking option really but that could change.
According to 90 min, West Ham are set to make a late move to sign Benfica hitman Darwin Nunez – and the Uruguayan striker is interested in a transfer to East London, the report claims.
The 22-year-old is enjoying a fantastic run of form this season, netting 20 goals in 25 outings.
Newcastle United have been linked but, with the player valued at £50 million, it seems unlikely that the Magpies – who spent £40 million on Bruno Guimaraes this evening – will invest enough to bring Darwin to St James’s Park.
Exciting
Indeed this is very exciting – well, providing it materialises, of course.
It’s such an interesting move by West Ham because Darwin is, as mentioned, one hell of a goalscorer and one who has been compared to Manchester United marksman Edison Cavani.
As brilliant as Antonio is, he is prone to barren spells in front of goal and an addition like this to relieve him of the goalscoring burden could be massive for the top-four chasing Hammers.
