Unai Emery may have turned down Newcastle United’s approach this time, but he has left the door open for the Magpies to go back for him in the future, AS report.
Door kept open
Emery decided against taking the Newcastle job yesterday, as he was persuaded to stay in his current role at Villarreal.
The Spaniard had become Newcastle’s first choice, but he decided that sticking in his native country was best for him for the time being.
With Newcastle in the relegation zone currently the job does look to be a risky one right now, especially with expectations rising following the takeover.
But Emery apparently was keen to ensure that he didn’t ruin his chances of getting the job on Tyneside forever.
The record-breaking, four-time Europa League winner has apparently been very civil with Newcastle’s new ownership in the hope of not totally burning bridges.
Could Newcastle go back?
That may lead to Newcastle to go back for Emery in the future, if circumstances allow.
Emery’s stance does look to be an understandable one too.
If the Magpies can get themselves away from trouble and secure in the Premier League then the job suddenly looks like a hugely appealing one.
Newcastle have limitless potential due to the wealth of their new owners and the size of their fan base, and they could certainly be turned into a super power in the Premier League in the years ahead.
But it seems that if Emery is to move to Tyneside it won’t be for a few years yet.
