According to 90min, Aston Villa want to hire Mauricio Pochettino as a replacement for Steven Gerrard – however, he would prefer a return to Tottenham.
Pochettino prefers Tottenham to Aston Villa
Well, this is a very interesting story.
90min believe those at Villa Park have sounded out Pochettino to see if he would be interested in taking the reins, as pressure grows on Gerrard.
However, the Argentine would prefer his next job to come at Tottenham.
Pochettino has been unemployed since July after being sacked from his role at PSG, despite winning the Ligue 1 title.
90min believe the 50-year-old would at least listen to an offer from the Villans, as he could be promised significant funds to work with in the transfer market.
However, Pochettino is said to believe that Antonio Conte won’t be at Tottenham much longer, and he would prefer to hold out for a return to north London following his dismissal in 2019.

The Italian is doing a superb job in N17 with Spurs currently sat third in the Premier League, although his contract expires in July.
According to the Telegraph, negotiations over a new deal are set to take place in November, although there is no guarantee that Conte will remain at Tottenham.
Pochettino should choose Aston Villa if Tottenham keep Conte
In the aforementioned report by the Telegraph, it is said that Conte wants assurances over spending if he is to stay at Tottenham, as he aims to close the gap on Manchester City.
Should Daniel Levy be successful in his attempts to keep the Italian, we feel Pochettino should jump at the chance to take over from Gerrard.
At Villa Park, there is plenty for the South American to work with.
Pochettino would have a number of quality players to coach such as Jacob Ramsey, John McGinn, Philippe Coutinho, Leon Bailey, Ezri Konsa, Lucas Digne and others – there is a solid spine to build from.
Furthermore, the Villans have one of, if not the best, academies in England, which has produced the likes of Jack Grealish, Carney Chukwuemeka, Louie Barry, Jaden Philogene-Bidace and Cameron Archer to name a few.
Gerrard hasn’t utilised that.
However, Pochettino worked wonders when developing young talent such as Dele Alli and Harry Kane at Tottenham, so there are strong foundations for him to succeed in the Midlands.
Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as another defeat for Gerrard could see him receive his P45.
