The Northern Echo reports Famara Diedhiou’s wage demands could scupper a move to Middlesbrough for the departing Bristol City forward, which could have implications for QPR too.
When Neil Warnock claimed earlier this month that Boro’s tenth-place finish in the Championship was quite an achievement – given he apparently didn’t have a striker worthy of the name – it felt like only a matter of time before those Diedhiou links resurfaced.
Middlesbrough are long-time admirers of the enigmatic Senegal international and held talks over a potential January switch.
And with Diedhiou now a free agent – Bristol City announced his departure this morning – it’s no surprise the north east outfit is once more flirting with an old flame.
According to the Echo, however, the 28-year-old’s hefty wage demands could put paid to Middlesbrough’s hopes of finally signing a man who moved to Ashton Gate for a cool £5.3 million in 2017.
A blow for Boro, then. And Queens Park Rangers could also be hit by Diedhiou’s stance.
This week, TEAMtalk reported QPR hoped to bring in out-of-favour Chuba Akpom from Middlesbrough.
Considering Warnock has already bid farewell to Ashley Fletcher and Britt Assombalonga, it seems unlikely Boro would be willing to let Akpom go too until they had a replacement in place.
