According to WAZ, Schalke’s long-serving skipper will not be sticking around to help one of Germany’s biggest and best-supporting clubs return to the big time at the first time of asking.
Mascarell has just one year left on his contract.
With the one-time Real Madrid youngster valued at a bargain £4 million, Wolves could step in and offer Mascarell a fresh start in England.
The 28-year-old, a deep-lying midfielder who previously had a loan spell at Derby County, could act as a long-term successor for the ageing Joao Moutinho at Molinuex.
“After five years (at the Veltins Arena), what I most want is to look for a new adventure elsewhere,” Mascarell told AS a few weeks ago.
No one, however, could accuse the captain of refusing to go down with his ship.
