Schalke are planning to sell Wolverhampton Wanderers target Omar Mascarell after their relegation from the Bundesliga this week, as reported by WAZ.
That 1-0 victory over Augsburg on April 11 was not the beginning of an escape so great that even Houdini himself would be left awe-struck. Instead, it was the classic case of delaying the inevitable.
Just nine days later, Schalke’s demotion was confirmed at long last.
With the dust settling on their first relegation in three decades, focus will quickly turn to planning for life in the second tier.
According to WAZ, Schalke’s long-serving skipper will not be sticking around to help one of Germany’s biggest and best-supporting clubs return to the big time at the first time of asking.
Mascarell has just one year left on his contract.

With the one-time Real Madrid youngster valued at a bargain £4 million, Wolves could step in and offer Mascarell a fresh start in England.
The 28-year-old, a deep-lying midfielder who previously had a loan spell at Derby County, could act as a long-term successor for the ageing Joao Moutinho at Molinuex.
“After five years (at the Veltins Arena), what I most want is to look for a new adventure elsewhere,” Mascarell told AS a few weeks ago.
No one, however, could accuse the captain of refusing to go down with his ship.
