Manchester City attacker Raheem Sterling is leaning away from penning a new deal with the club, with the attacker now weighing up a loan move to Barcelona.
According to the Times, the England international, who joined City for a reported fee of £49m in 2015, is ‘unlikely’ to sign a new contract. Sterling has been dropped from Pep Guardiola’s starting XI this season following the arrival of Jack Grealish.
With Gabriel Jesus now also taking up Sterling’s favoured right-wing spot, the attacker is weighing his options. With Barcelona, who currently sit midtable in La Liga, a club that interest the 26-year-old.
The Catalan giants have been linked with Sterling for some time. Yet despite Barcelona’s abysmal financial situation, a move for the English attacker seems highly likely given his playing situation with City.
After all, the Euro 2020 hero has made just three starts for City in the Premier League this season. And with Barcelona’s new manager Xavi Hernandez eyeing an all-around winger, Sterling more than fits the bill.
A loan move could well happen if Sterling’s situation with City doesn’t improve. And the winger could both move to Barcelona and reject a new contract with the Manchester giants come January.
Sterling contract refusal and Barcelona move will sting City

It would be an understatement to say that Sterling has had a season to forget following up from his memorable summer with England. And City could well be making a mistake allowing the attacker to slip through their fingers.
Whilst Guardiola’s side are performing well without Sterling, the winger has been one of City’s best players since his arrival from Liverpool half a decade ago. And the England star will no doubt be a huge coup for Barcelona, who can do with all the quality they can get.
