According to The Athletic, the San Francisco 49ers, have plans to expand Elland Road should they complete their expected takeover of Leeds United.

Angus Kinnear, the club’s CEO, had revealed these plans in 2019 as a part of the club’s centenary celebrations. However, no further updates have been provided since then and the project seems to be on hold for now.

The 49ers, who currently own a minority share in Leeds United, are keen to push forward with the stadium expansion plans if they take over the club – a deal that is anticipated to go through later this year.. They reportedly want to put expanding Elland Road at the centre of their plans to increase revenues.

The 49ers are targeting a yearly revenue of close to £400m, and expanding the stadium’s capacity will be a significant step towards achieving that goal. With a larger stadium, the club will be able to generate more matchday revenue, as well as potentially attracting more lucrative sponsorship deals, all of which will contribute to better performances in the transfer market and on the pitch.

Of course,, expanding Elland Road is not without its challenges. Planning permission can be a real pain in the backside for this type of thing, and while there is plenty of room around the stadium, it will cost a lot of money to get this work done.

Nonetheless, the 49ers are determined to see through their plans to expand Elland Road and increase Leeds United’s revenues. If they are successful in their plans, it will undoubtedly have a significant impact on the club’s future and its ability to compete with the biggest teams in the Premier League.

Leeds’ may be getting a stadium refresh, and that’s a very exciting prospect for one of the most passionate fanbases in England.
