Paulo Fonseca has told Newcastle United’s board that he wants to make five loan signings in January and he believes that he has a ‘great chance’ of getting the job, EuroSport report.

Impressing the board

Fonseca was thought to be the front runner at Newcastle, but in recent days talk has suggested that other candidates may have moved ahead of him.

However, it seems that the Portuguese boss is under the impression that all is well.

Fonseca apparently made a good impression on Newcastle’s board in his interview and even pitched both short-term and long-term plans to the club.

In the near future Fonseca apparently is eyeing up at least five new signings, as he looks to take Newcastle away from the relegation zone.

Exciting appointment?

The Magpies only have collected four points from nine games this season and sit in 19th place in the Premier League table.

At the moment Graeme Jones remains in temporary charge, but Newcastle surely cannot afford to wait for too much longer.

If Fonseca does take charge it will be his first job in English football, which could make his appointment a big risk.

But his attacking style of play could provide great entertainment at St. James’ Park, and his potential appointment does seem to have excited many supporters on Tyneside.
