Brendan Rodgers appreciates that there will be backlash from Liverpool fans, but he is still willing to take the Manchester United job.

What’s the story?

That is according to 90 Minutes, who say that Rodgers has changed his mind about taking over at Old Trafford.

Earlier in his career, the 48-year-old manager said that he couldn’t manage United due to his connections with Liverpool.

Indeed, the fact that he once managed at Anfield was putting the Red Devils off at one stage.

However, with Ole Gunnar Solksjaer coming under pressure, Rodgers is now said to be their first choice to take over.

United insiders apparently feel that the move would be accepted as Rodgers never won the league with Liverpool.

Prepared to annoy Liverpool

The Northern Irish boss has now been convinced that United’s interest is genuine and he apparently knows his change of stance could annoy Liverpool supporters.

That is something that the Leicester City boss is willing to live with though, as he looks for the next move in his career.

If Rodgers was to move to United he would likely come into direct competition with Liverpool.

The two sides both have ambitions of winning the Premier League, although their are doubts over their credentials to do so this term.

United are already surely too far behind the league leaders to mount a challenge, while Liverpool’s poor form in recent weeks has seen them fall off the pace and down into fourth spot.

Upgrade on Solskjaer?

In some ways the news may be of some concern to Liverpool.

It is becoming more and more clear that Solskjaer’s may not be the ma t to deliver success to United.

Rodgers is widely regarded as one of the best managers in the Premier League though and United’s play would surely look more structured with him in charge.

That being said, Rodgers’ track record when it comes to crunch time of the season must be of some concern to the Red Devils.

And it would be interesting to see if he could win his first Premier League title in charge of United, after coming so close to the feat while at Liverpool.
