According to The Telegraph, sources at Everton believe one of Wayne Rooney, Frank Lampard or Fabio Cannavaro will be named as manager.
What’s the story?
Well, the Premier League side are looking to replace Rafa Benitez following a humiliating 2-1 defeat to Norwich, and they’ve shortlisted the aforementioned three names.
Cannavaro has already been interviewed, and according to The Telegraph, the 48-year-old Italian impressed those at Goodison Park.
Now, Rooney has been pencilled in for an interview of his own, as has Lampard, who would be easier to hire as he’s currently unemployed.
Bill Kenwright and Farhad Moshiri are taking a key role in the process as they look to find the right man to take the reins from Duncan Ferguson.
The Telegraph believe Everton had hoped to hire Roberto Martinez, who was keen to take the job and balance it with his role at Belgium.
However, Belgium were not willing to let that happen.
Now, The Telegraph feel no more names will be added to the list beyond Cannavaro, Rooney and Lampard.
Who should Everton hire as manager?

In our view, Rooney is the man.
That might sound strange, as Cannavaro and Lampard have more experience in management than him.
However, things are quite toxic at Everton right now, and the Toffees need someone who can unite Goodison Park once again.
Having risen through the ranks at Finch Farm, Rooney understands what Everton is all about, and would be a popular choice.
At the risk of sounding like we want Everton to hire a cheerleader, the 36-year-old is also proving to be quite a bright, young coach.

Against all odds, Rooney has given Derby a chance of staying in the Championship despite a 21-point deduction.
As things stand, the Rams are eight points from safety having won four of their last five Championship games.
Of course, there will be more expectation and pressure at Everton than at Derby, but his efforts in the world of management so far have been very impressive.
Keep an eye on this situation, with Rooney and Lampard set to be interviewed shortly.
