Paulo Fonseca has told friends that he wants to be Newcastle United’s next manager now, the Times report.

Fonseca to Newcastle?

Fonseca has been interviewed for the Newcastle job already and looked to be on the verge of replacing Steve Bruce.

However, Newcastle have also assessed other options in the weeks since.

The Magpies are determined not to rush into making an appointment, but Graeme Jones has now been in charge for two games, with limited success.

Newcastle have collected just one point from their two outings since Bruce left, and are now starting to become cut adrift in the relegation zone.

The new owners at St. James’ Park are, therefore, under pressure to pick a manager sooner rather than later.

A strong appointment?

And Fonseca appears to be one boss who could present the club with a good opportunity.

The 48-year-old has apparently now informed his close contacts that he would be keen to move to Tyneside.

If Newcastle are to appoint Fonseca they may have to get their contract offer ready soon, though.

Tottenham are also now believed to be interested in the nine-time trophy winner, as they prepare to part company with Nuno, according to the Daily Mirror.
