According to De Telegraaf, Marc Overmars cancelled his interview with Newcastle before deciding to stay at Ajax as their Director of Football (DOF).
What’s the story?
Well, after Lee Charnley followed Steve Bruce and Mike Ashley out of Tyneside, Newcastle need a new Technical Director to organise things.
There was interest in ex-Chelsea Director Michael Emenalo, although the Telegraph believe he has rejected the Magpies.
Now, Amanda Staveley and the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia (PIF) have received another blow with Overmars.
After cancelling his interview, the Dutchman has now signed a contract extension with Ajax which will run until 2026.
It’s a bitter blow for Newcastle, as De Telegraaf believe Overmars was in PIF’s top three candidates for the Director of Football role.
Marc Overmars would’ve been great for Newcastle

In our view, the 48-year-old is the best Director of Football in Europe – his work at Ajax in recent years has been outstanding.
Even during a global pandemic, Overmars has earned the Dutch giants more than €360m (£307m) in the last three years through player sales.
Since his arrival in Amsterdam, the ex-Arsenal man has incredibly earned Ajax over €600m (£511m), while 42 academy gems made their debuts.
Evidently, Ajax are a well-oiled machine with Overmars at the helm.

Sadly, it seems he won’t be coming to Newcastle.
In our view, Staveley and PIF must find someone to fill the vacancy as soon as possible.
The January transfer window is next month, and if Newcastle fail to make a number of smart additions, relegation could be on the cards.
To help oversee a smooth window, it is imperative that a Director of Football arrives at Newcastle soon.
