Roberto Martinez could become an option for Tottenham Hotspur to replace Jose Mourinho with in the summer, the Athletic report.
Martinez’s name has apparently come up in conversations around the Tottenham job, with Mourinho’s future still uncertain.
While the Portuguese boss did manage to reduce some of the pressure building on him by guiding his Tottenham team to victory over Aston Villa in the last game before the international break, he has hardly won over his critics yet.
The Daily Mail have gone as far to say that Tottenham will part company with Mourinho if he fails to earn them a top four spot this season, which still remains unlikely.
It is believed that Julian Nagelsmann, Ralph Hassenhutl and Brendan Rodgers are the leading candidates to take over at Spurs, but Martinez apparently is another option on their list.
The Spaniard would likely be a controversial choice, given his recent track record in the Premier League.
While Martinez did a stellar job at Wigan Athletic, he struggled to live up to expectations when placed in charge at Everton.
Martinez did promote an attacking style of football though, which could appeal to Spurs supporters.
Martinez apparently wanted the Tottenham job in 2019, after Mauricio Pochettino’s sacking (Daily Star), and it would surely still appeal to the current Belgium manager, if he was offered the chance to take it.
